Installing the Blackberry Desktop Manager On Your Personal Computer

Installation and Integration of Your Corporate Email Account Into Your Blackberry Smartphone

The Blackberry Smartphone has become the must-have work gadget for those on-the-go. Learn how to install necessary software that will help you take your work on your Blackberry and on-the-go.

The Blackberry line of Smartphones demands the use of the Blackberry Desktop Manager to manage the content of your Blackberry phone. The installation CD for the software is included in the product package, and is needed to install the program unto your personal computer. It is also possible to download the Blackberry Desktop Manager from the company website. If you are an existing user of the program, the upgrades are available in their download and support page as well.

First, insert the installation CD into your computer’s optical disc drive. The installation program should automatically launch itself. If you downloaded the program from the company website, double click the installation package file and launch the installation program manually.

Once the installer is launched, click on “Install” to proceed with the installation. To guide you through the installation steps, the InstallShield Wizard will help you along each step of the way. Click on the “Next” button to proceed with the next stage of the installation.

Two choices will be made available to you for the installation of the Blackberry Desktop Manager into your hard drive. “Typical” is the common and safe option to choose and is the standard for most users of the Blackberry Smartphone. Again, click on “Next” to proceed with installation.

After choosing the type of setup, the Wizard will bring up the options for Integration. The installer will ask you to choose from “Blackberry Enterprise Server or Blackberry Desktop Redirector” and a “Blackberry Internet Service”. The first option is the choice you want to make to access your corporate email.

Identify your company’s email client. Common programs are Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino, Novell GroupWise or Blackberry Enterprise Server for MDS Application. If you are uncertain of your email client, it’s best to ask assistance from your company’s MIS department. After determining the email client, proceed to the next step.

Choose the Message Redirection Method. Choose “Redirect messages using the Blackberry Enterprise Server” if your company has a BES account, or “Redirect messages using the Blackberry Desktop Redirectory” if your company has its own server.

For easier access, choose to have the Blackberry Desktop Manager startup automatically when your computer boots up. Choose to have a shortcut on your Desktop as well, so you can launch the program anytime without looking through your Programs Folder.

Once all these options have been set, click on the “Install” button and the installation process will run its course. The program will prompt you to acknowledge the completion of the installation after a while, and all you have to do is click “Finish” and restart your computer to complete installation.
Once you start up the Desktop Manager, you will be able to sync your contacts, files, email and other information into your Blackberry Smartphone and work from anywhere, anytime.
